Client Services Manager Corinne Scott shares her career change advice

Recently, we interviewed Corinne Scott, Client Services Manager at IQVIA for her insight into how to decide a career change.

Corinne shared her own journey and valuable advice with us to help answer the question “Is a career change worth it?”

What prompted you changing career, and why did you choose IQVIA?

I started working for IQVIA in 2022 as a recruiter. Prior to recruiting, I was the Director of Fundraising for a local non-profit.

I gained project management skills and grew my interpersonal communication skills immensely while there, but I didn’t see any room for growth in my career.

As a single mom, I realized I needed to join a large company with different avenues for growth so I could better the future for my two sons. I’ve always loved talking with new people, and recruiting felt like a natural transition from major event fundraising.

How has IQVIA supported your transition into a new career path, and what resources or training opportunities have you received?

IQVIA was very warm and welcoming.

As a new recruiter, I shadowed more senior recruiters and set daily/weekly goals. This allowed me to quickly find processes that worked well for me and I became a valued team member.

In the last year, I was given leadership opportunities such as joining a client QBR, and was even asked to attend a convention.

I have always said that I might work remotely, but I don’t feel like I work alone. Everyone is available over Teams and responds timely, so when you have questions the answer is typically just one message away.

If you want to advance your career in a remote environment, you have to make connections with your co-workers.

How have your previous experiences and skills proved valuable in your role at IQVIA?

Before IQVIA, I was in major event planning as a Director of Fundraising for a local non-profit.

My role was to develop, plan, and execute an event to raise money for the foundation. I learned time and project management skills along with how to delegate tasks.

I also developed interpersonal communication as I was tasked with speaking with major key donors in our community and seeking sponsors. I even enhanced my public speaking confidence in groups of over one hundred people!

These skills served me well as a new recruiter because I was not afraid to cold call people and I understood the importance of time management to meet deadlines.

As I transition into a Client Services Manager role, all of my skills from my previous job in fundraising and as a recruiter at IQVIA have come together and I am so excited to learn even more!

What challenges have you faced during this career transition and how have you overcome them?

The biggest challenge I have faced so far in transitioning from Recruiter to Client Services Manager is the different reporting systems and their processes.

My Associate Directors and fellow CSM’s have been so helpful in answering all of my questions. I know every new role takes times to adjust to and I am confident I will have my bearings soon.

What do you appreciate most about the opportunities for growth and advancement at IQVIA?

I’m most appreciative of the amount of support I have received from my colleagues for the opportunities to shadow them in some of their day-to-day responsibilities.

As a recruiter, this allowed for me to have a realistic perspective of what a Client Services Manager job entails. I also met with a mentor once a week to run through any scenarios he encountered as a CSM that week.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career change?

My career change advice is that it’s important to have confidence and believe in yourself.

You may not know all the ins and outs of the new position you are transitioning to, but having confidence that you have the ability to learn quickly will take you far.

Additionally, looking for opportunities to shadow or have a mentor will help you have a

realistic understanding of the job you want.

Lastly, remember your “why.” My sons are my “why” and everything I do, I do for them.
