IQVIA Interface - Kareem’s Clinical Pharmacist career story
Kareem Mohamed joined IQVIA Interface in 2023 as a Clinical Pharmacist after having previously worked as a Primary Care Network (PCN) Pharmacist.
Our Clinical Pharmacists play a huge part in any healthcare team, providing direct patient care to improve health and wellness.
We caught up with Kareem for some Q&A insight into his IQVIA journey so far and to get a glimpse into what the role of a Clinical Pharmacist has to offer.
Q: What attracted you to IQVIA, how has your experience matched your expectations?
A: Joining IQVIA Interface was the perfect stepping stone after my previous role of three years as a PCN Pharmacist and it’s really helped me work on my pharmacy skills.
The idea of being able to work with an organisation that is at the interface between the NHS and Pharmaceutical companies definitely appealed to me. As a platform, you can best provide GP surgeries around the UK with valuable support that creates change beyond working in a single geographical area.
I was also attracted by IQVIA’s culture of personal growth and development which has been incredibly encouraging in my experience so far.
Q: Can you share any insights into training and onboarding?
A: The training and onboarding process was quite thorough. I was provided with the means needed for my role (such as a laptop and mobile etc) and met with the Regional Associate Director on the first day.
The following four to five weeks involved completing mandatory training modules, shadowing a variety of colleagues and training in my first clinical therapy area which was Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
After shadowing several clinics and completing my COPD review training, I was signed off to run the service on my own. Since then, my scope of practice has started to increase with Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF)/disease prevalence support as well as project management in my calendar.
This role with IQVIA has really enabled me to work on my project management techniques and get to grips with my Clinical Pharmacist duties.
Q: How would you describe the company culture, how has it supported your professional growth?
A: IQVIA’s culture encourages you to keep moving forward and grow beyond your first few steps.
My manager and colleagues noticed different interests of mine which opened open conversation streams I otherwise wouldn’t have had. They also encouraged me to take on a large NHS project and have supported me throughout the journey.
Q: How does IQVIA invest in employee development?
A: During my induction, I was recommended to sign up for a few additional learning edge modules on the IQVIA hub which have been incredibly useful.
My manager regularly checks in with me and where growth opportunities are identified, she has always worked hard to take them beyond just the initial idea, paving the way for further personal development. Other colleagues I’ve spoken with have noted the same!
Q: Can you share a memorable moment that has shaped your career journey at IQVIA?
A: My career journey at IQVIA is still young! However, in my previous role, the idea of conducting a thorough COPD clinical review terrified me. It was one of the very few clinical areas in which I didn’t feel so confident.
The day I ran my first successful review before sign-off, the feeling of accomplishment was amazing!
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering starting their career at IQVIA?
A: At IQVIA, you can be a sponge and soak up the process!
The development opportunities are truly excellent and the culture fosters growth and improvement at its very core. There’s a lot of flexibility and help from the wider team when it comes to navigating career growth.

Once again I cannot thank you enough for not only approaching me with this opportunity but also for all the support you’ve given me along the way!
Since joining IQVIA I have had unrivalled support and development from my manager to enable me to aspire to move into secondary care. I feel like my career is strongly supported by my manager in order to maximise my potential.
Just following on from the amazing news I got yesterday I wanted to say a really special thank you for all the help and support you have provided throughout the entire recruitment process.
IQVIA has been behind my development to become a MSL. The contracts that I have worked on have allowed me to push clinical projects with a recent opportunity to manage a pilot scheme integrating e-detailing into an established field based team. The result was an increase in sales.
A quick note to say thank you for your time this morning discussing my future career options. As you know I was feeling very conflicted about the right decision. Discussing the role with you gave me chance to clarify what is important to me.
Once again I cannot thank you enough for not only approaching me with this opportunity but also for all the support you’ve given me along the way!
