Navigating Career Growth and Flexibility at IQVIA: a Q&A with Lucy

Lucy Manning sits in our clinical trials team, but that’s not where her career started at IQVIA. It all began at the back end of 2022 when Lucy took on a fixed-term contract as a Project Support Coordinator. As with any fixed-term role, this one had to come to an end. But that did not signal the end of her time working with us.

Lucy firmly believed that she’d found the right company for her, and her manager believed it too.

We caught up with Lucy to dig a little more into her career journey so far. She spilled it all, from her favourite parts about working at IQVIA to the people who have helped her get to where she is now.

Q: Can you briefly describe your career journey at IQVIA, from your initial role to your current position? (Temp to perm)

A: I joined IQVIA in November 2022 on a fixed-term contract as a Project Support Coordinator. This role provided me with a fantastic opportunity to immerse myself in the dynamic world of healthcare. But as my fixed-term contract reached its conclusion in September 2023, I found myself at a crossroads, ready for a new chapter in my career. Fortunately, I was able to find this at IQVIA and started a new role within IQVIA as a Clinical Trials Assistant.

Q: What do you appreciate most about the good that IQVIA does?

A: One of my favourite aspects of working at IQVIA is the impact we have on human health. It's incredibly fulfilling to be part of a company where your work contributes to something important and has a tangible effect on improving people’s lives.

Q: What is your favourite part about working for IQVIA?

A: I have two, and I can't quite decide which is better! In my previous role, it was the flexible working culture and the supportive managers. They were very supportive of a healthy work-life balance and the trust they had in us was truly refreshing.

In my new role, we have something called "Focus/Flexible Fridays." We can finish work at 2 pm on Fridays if we make up the hours during the week, and alternate Fridays are meeting-free, providing an opportunity to catch up on admin tasks. Additionally, meetings are scheduled with buffer times to ensure you have a moment to make yourself a drink.

It's wonderful to work for a company where your personal life is genuinely considered - it makes all the difference.

Q: How does IQVIA support and encourage internal mobility among its employees?

A: They’re proactive. The emphasis on growth and development is evident throughout the organisation and they’re always promoting things like LinkedIn Learning and career connections. The strong focus on career development makes me excited to see how IQVIA will continue to support early talent.

Q: Is there anyone you’d like to call out for the support they’ve given you?

A: My previous manager. When my Project Support Coordinator role was coming to an end, they reached out to other managers regarding open positions, and that’s what led to me being interviewed for my current role.

I also want to give a shout-out to the Talent Acquisition team for making employees aware of other roles within the company. They've been incredibly helpful in providing resources, from CV tips to networking within IQVIA - both of which were instrumental in my job search.

Come and build your career at IQVIA

If Lucy’s story has inspired you, maybe you’re interested in exploring clinical operations jobs? That’s not all we have to offer though.

We’ve got big dreams at IQVIA, so we need big dreamers to help us deliver on our promise to create a healthier world. From nurse advisors to medical science liaisons and marketing managers to key account managers, every role is an opportunity to help us drive healthcare forward.

Overall, IQVIA places a strong emphasis on helping employees explore and pursue new opportunities within the organisation.
