Marissa's inspiring journey as a nurse advisor at IQVIA
In the tapestry of healthcare, where expertise meets innovation, individuals like Marissa, a Senior Nurse Advisor at IQVIA, play a pivotal role.
Marissa has not only learned from challenges but has emerged as a beacon of knowledge and leadership in her role.
Today, she opens the door to her daily experiences, sharing her journey, the lessons learned, top qualities needed to succeed as a nurse advisor and the unique perspectives that make a career as a nurse advisor at IQVIA both rewarding and impactful.
For those considering the path of a Nurse Advisor, Marissa's story is a testament to the opportunities and fulfilment that await at IQVIA.
Hi Marissa! Tell us about yourself.
I’m a Senior Nurse Advisor and I live in Exeter, Devon.
I started working for IQVIA in 2020 after beginning to feel burnt out in my previous role within emergency medicine. Although stressful, this role set me up with the necessary communication skills and problem-solving ability to help me become a successful nurse advisor.
What does a typical day look like in a nurse advisor job at IQVIA?
Every day is different as a nurse advisor. Some days I’ll be out visiting patients in their home providing them with clinical support or education as part of a Patient Support Programme.
Other times I may be working from home and providing patient support remotely.
Some days I visit healthcare professionals (HCPs) to provide training in the use of new technological advancements to improve the patient experience.
As a senior nurse advisor, I also support the wider team with training and conduct regular review meetings with healthcare professionals.
This allows us to improve the service we provide by measuring client satisfaction and helping suggest changes that could be made to the Patient Support Programmes.
What is your favourite thing about being a nurse advisor?
It’s really rewarding to know that I’m contributing to providing a service that patients and healthcare professionals really value. It’s also exciting to be working as part of a global company that provides solutions to drive healthcare forward and get the right treatments to patients faster.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to anyone looking for nurse advisor jobs?
Carefully consider the job description to make sure that the role is right for you. Visiting patients within our territory means that we can spend quite a bit of time driving.
I personally love listening to podcasts and audiobooks so value this time on the road.
In your view, what makes a great nurse advisor?
Excellent communication skills and feeling comfortable working independently will help you go far as a nurse advisor.
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
Outside of work I have two dogs, one of which we recently rescued from Bulgaria, that keep me very busy. I love going out for long hikes on Dartmoor with them followed by a pub lunch. I also love running and climbing – and anything outdoors!
Are you ready to blend your clinical expertise with a strategic mindset?
Marissa's expertise, tips, and reflections offer an insightful roadmap for those aspiring to make a meaningful impact in healthcare beyond the traditional clinical settings.
As IQVIA continues to redefine industry standards, we’d love to invite aspiring Nurse Advisors like you to join a community where your skills are not just valued but are instrumental in shaping the future of healthcare.
