A day in the life of an Angels Consultant
Stefania Fiorillio has always been passionate about life sciences. The Naples-based consultant studied Medical Biotechnology, achieving 110 out of a possible 110 to gain an honours grade, before embarking on a career in neuroscience research. After completing her PHD in Neuroscience, Stefania decided to leave the laboratory bench to help improve healthcare in Italy as an Angels Consultant. She spoke to us about her journey:
“As an Angels Consultant, I have a big responsibility”
Stefania takes her work seriously, and so she should. Her role is to encourage hospitals to improve the stroke pathway with the goal to give patients more chance of surviving with a good outcome after a stroke. This goal allows stroke victims to return to their families, jobs and ultimately their lives.
“The working day of an Angels Consultant is always different”
While Stefania is always focused on her goal of improving stroke patient outcomes, she says that the daily tasks she undertakes can change significantly. This is because hospitals within the Angels community have different needs, which Stefania says has encouraged the Angels project to develop its biggest strength: adaptability.
“Angels Consultants work alongside the stroke team to assist and motivate in improving their performance”
Stefania says her job usually involves analysing the baseline pathway in order to give hospitals customised solutions, using Angels’ four platforms: education, organisation, community and quality monitoring. Her day starts with different activities such as hospital multidisciplinary meetings, training and simulations, and can also include regional events to help grow the Angels community.
“I became an Angels Initiative Consultant to save lives”
During the interview stage it was made clear to Stefania that being an Angels Consultant was important work that had the potential to change people’s lives for the better. Accepting the challenge, Stefania knew that she was taking on a big responsibility, something she takes very seriously.
“I feel part of something bigger and I have the opportunity to have a big impact”
Angels Initiative has a clear mission that Stefania is proud to support. She loves the tangible impact she can have on patient lives, saying she feels satisfied when doctors thank her for helping to treat patients faster and better.
Another benefit of Angels is the internationality of the team. Stefania says this gives consultants the chance to grow faster and share different experiences and cultures. This helps to cultivate shared passion and community within the team, with a non-hierarchical structure that sees managers and consultants working together driven by the same desire to improve.
“If you want to join an amazing mission, contribute to changing patients’ lives and leave a lasting legacy, Angels Initiative is the place for you”
Stefania hasn’t looked back since becoming an Angels Consultant at Angels Initiative, which was developed in collaboration with IQVIA. If you’re interested in career paths within the life sciences industry, take a look at the latest IQVIA jobs now.
