Clinical Pharmacist Interview Tips: Securing Your Next Opportunity

The clinical pharmacy industry is booming. Since the pandemic, the general public has become more aware of how pharmacists play a vital role in healthcare. Naturally, the market for these roles is also expanding. In England for example, Clinical Pharmacists are being increasingly employed by general practices to help alleviate pressure.

When it comes to preparing for your Clinical Pharmacist interview, there are many factors to consider to make sure you stand out.

Aside from being well-equipped to answer common interview questions and doing your research on the company and role, you have to keep in mind the role-specific queries from your interviewer. It will also go a long way to show your passion, give specific examples in your answers, and show the interviewer you understand the importance of targets and KPIs.

Below, we cover five crucial tips to aid you in planning for your Clinical Pharmacist interview.

1.Be ready to discuss clinical scenarios

One of the best ways that you can demonstrate your clinical expertise, commercial acumen, and unwavering commitment to success is by drawing on your past experiences in the field.

Discussing clinical scenarios allows the interviewer to assess your understanding of pharmaceutical principles, drug interactions, and treatment protocols while taking into account your ability to analyse and apply your knowledge to real-world situations.

Your interviewer will be looking to evaluate your problem-solving skills, how you communicate, and your ability to assess patient needs and health data.

Make sure you turn up to your Clinical Pharmacist interview prepared to answer situational questions.

2. Emphasise teamwork and collaboration

As Clinical Pharmacists often work in multi-disciplinary teams, collaborating with other care professionals like nurses and physicians is essential day-to-day.

Collaboration and communication are vital to convey complex medical information clearly. Effective teamwork ensures quality patient care to optimise treatment plans and hit targets.

In your interview, you’ll want to showcase your commitment and passion for comprehensive patient care, where you’ve utilised your collaboration skills to gain insights into medical histories and treatments to develop tailored plans.

3. Be up to date on healthcare trends

From advances in AI and the increase in tailored treatment plans, a lot is happening in the world of healthcare trends. In your Clinical Pharmacist interview, you’ll want to show the interviewer you keep in the loop with any updates in your field. This is also a great opportunity to really show off your research skills.

Staying current with healthcare trends proves you’re aware of any emerging therapies, treatment guidelines, and technologies that can help improve patient outcomes. By staying informed, you are in a better position when it comes to any drug safety news too, some necessary information for keeping your patients safe.

4. Demonstrate good judgement

Assessing your patient’s needs and safety, identifying medication-related issues, and recommending appropriate interventions to the GPs you work with all come from having solid judgement skills.

Illustrating your good judgment in the interview will not only reflect the above points but will give you the chance to show you understand patient pathways when considering treatment plans.

In your interview, you’ll benefit from drawing on examples of how you’ve helped patients, met your targets, and worked alongside GP’s treatment plans while using good judgement to do so.

At IQVIA, our pharmacists are ‘Trusted Advisors’ who truly know what they’re doing. Your judgement skills and sound knowledge of trends, chronic conditions, and subject matter expertise, will assure patients they are in safe hands.

5. Be upfront about your experience

Transparency is key in your interview.

Communicating honestly with your interviewer demonstrates your integrity and establishes a foundation of trust.

Providing accurate information about your qualifications and experience means that both you and your potential employer have a clear understanding of whether the role is a good fit based on your professional background.

Up-front communication sets realistic expectations and helps minimise any misunderstandings, creating a beneficial working relationship moving forward.
