How to prepare for a nurse advisor job interview

Receiving an interview request for a nurse advisor position can be exciting and daunting at the same time. There’s the prospect of a new career to advance in but first, you need to prove that you’re worthy of the job and that your contribution will have a positive impact on the company. In this guide, we’ll help to calm your nerves as we give you professional insight into how to best prepare for interviews relating to nurse advisor specialist jobs.

Research the nurse advisor position carefully

First, you need to conduct thorough research into what role you’re applying for. Research is key if you are eager to win over the interviewers. Your new employer will be eager to see how much you know about their company and your knowledge will reflect your enthusiasm for working there.

Second, this knowledge will also help boost your confidence because you’ll have a better idea of what is expected of you. For example, you can learn about the company’s culture and respond to questions in a manner that complements this culture. With this preparation, you’ll also be in a better position to come up with topics to discuss or questions to ask during the interview.

When you take time to prepare by learning more about the nurse advisor vacancy you’ve applied for, you are indirectly proving to the recruiters that you’re willing to take the initiative and gather data. The ability to take initiative is an essential skill to have in the health sector and will help you to maintain relationships.

Prepare for in-person and video interviews

As Covid-19 started to weave its way through countries, video platforms skyrocketed. This trend for conducting video interviews online has since continued and many healthcare sectors have adopted this approach as their first point of contact. In fact, looking ahead, more than 41% of recruiters say they plan to use a combination of in-person and virtual interviews during the hiring process.

This means that you should prepare for both in-person and video interviews because you never know when you’re going to have to pick up a video call. As a rule of thumb, have a computer (with a camera) set up in a quiet, private place in your home. You should also make sure that you have access to the most popular video calling platforms and a sufficient internet connection to support them.

For a video interview, dress as though you were appearing in person because appearance still matters. And then, prepare yourself for the unexpected (this applies to both types of interviews). You can’t always control your environment and unexpected challenges can arise. The good news is that if you can handle unexpected disruptions during a nurse advisor interview, you prove to your interviewers that you have the skills to smoothen a situation promptly (another essential characteristic for passionate nursing advisors).

Practice answering common nursing interview questions

As you attend more nurse advisor interviews, you’ll notice that many of the interview questions are similar, if not identical. This is something you can use to your advantage. While you cannot always guess what questions are going to be asked, you can prepare for a few of the most common ones. Once again, this type of preparation will help boost your confidence as you answer according to your research as well as your personal beliefs (remain honest and transparent).

Examples of popular nurse advisor interview questions include:

·       What do you know about your speciality?

·       What would your past employers say about you?

·       What are your strengths and weaknesses?

·       Why do you think you’re a good fit for this company?
