What does the future hold for Medical Sales?

There are a lot of exciting things to look forward to in the pharma industry. It’s very much out with the old and in with the new as the sector continues to embrace the benefits of technology. With exciting innovations such as artificial intelligence and big data, the future of Medical Sales looks extra bright.

Read on as we explore some of the innovative tech advances we expect to be dominating the future of Medical Sales.

The da Vinci System - surgical robotics

The system consists of the surgeon control, the patient cart and the vision cart - all three machines assist the surgeon in the operating room.

So, what makes the da Vinci System so special?

The system’s instruments are tiny enough for minimally invasive surgery and serve as an imitation of the human wrist but with a far greater range of motion. The surgeon can observe the patient's anatomy in high-definition 3D while seated at the console. Their hand movements are then translated in real-time to the tiny instruments to help perform the surgery.

This ground-breaking technology gives us a window into the future of medical sales and the other innovative developments that are down the track. With more investment being funnelled into the wider pharmaceutical market, medical sales professionals can expect to see a flurry of new and exciting drugs and devices go to market.

What is the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT)?

According to Deloitte, theInternet of Medical Things (IoMT) 2022 market is worth $158.1 billion. The IoMT is expanding its capabilities through medical technology, this includes devices such as pacemakers, MRI scanners and even AI-monitoring medical devices. IT systems are connected to these devices, which can share and analyze data, creating what the industry refers to as the Internet of Medical Things, which is a connected infrastructure of health systems and services. Helping medical sales professionals and healthcare providers to make more efficient and sound decisions by enabling them to access rich datasets.

How is tech impacting the role of Medical Sales?

It’s hard to imagine the future of Medical Sales jobs without technology being at the centre. The competitiveness of the industry requires that all forms of communication with both potential and existing clients be as streamlined as possible. This is where E-detailing comes in - an element that is vital to any medical sales’ digital communications strategy. It works toward making the channels of communication with healthcare providers and stakeholders more efficient and engaging. One way is through moving graphics that can help draw attention to key messages. In addition, E-detailing also allows for highly-targeted communication by using sophisticated analytics and tracking that logs how clients interact with the information they are being shown.

How has Covid-19 shifted the landscape of medical sales?

A Medical Sales Rep job serves as an important bridge between the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare services. This bridge's future is currently being held up by the notion of all things digital.

Thanks to Covid-19, the acceleration of implementing technology has resulted in 87% of healthcare professionals now preferring all virtual or hybrid meetings with Medical Sales Reps. In order to achieve sales and growth, the needs and preferences of the modern customer must be met. These modern customers aren’t necessarily just doctors, they could also be corporate panels or committees who may have the final say when it comes to making big decisions.

What is interesting is how Covid has managed to shift professionals’ preferences in how they communicate. We’re seeing a rise of Virtual Medical Sales Reps which means there’s never been a more exciting time to join the workforce.
