How to prepare for a market access interview
Market
access plays a pivotal role in navigating the ever-changing healthcare
landscape. It’s one of those careers that knows no bounds, but every avenue has
one goal: the best patient care. From medical sales jobs to medical device jobs
that fall under this umbrella, market access entails doing everything necessary
to ensure treatments and medical technologies are available to healthcare
professionals when the patient needs them.
If
this vocation appeals to you, and if you’d like to make a remarkable difference
in advancing the healthcare industry, then this guide will be to your
advantage. Here, we’ll help you prepare for a market access interview so that you
can progress in facilitating an improvement in patients’ lives.
Read the job
specification thoroughly
According
to the Job Description Library, the most common reason
why a candidate would fail a job interview is a lack of understanding of the
role.
If
you apply for a position you’re not qualified for, or your skills don’t fit the
role, then you’re not doing yourself or the interviewers any favours. Instead,
take time to read the job specification thoroughly and determine what you can
bring to the role in terms of qualifications, skills, and experience.
Tip:
prepare your market or medical sales CV according to the job
specification – this will help recruiters to establish if you’re fit for the
position before time is lost on interviews.
Most
market access jobs will require that you have experience within one or more of
the following areas:
·
Pricing and reimbursement
·
Value communication
·
Value proposition
·
Product (drug/device) launching
·
EU5 or regional experience
When
you read the job specification, look out for other expectations and requirements,
and then fine-tune your interview approach according to these terms.
Research the
company
Not only will researching your potential employers help you determine if it’s a company you want to work for, but it will give you the confidence, fluidity, and clarity you need to meet the expectations of the recruiters.
Most
medical companies have online profiles that can easily be found with a quick
search. Take time to browse these profiles so that you can establish the
company’s culture, its products and services, and its goals.
Researching
a company prior to an interview provides important benefits that can place you
ahead of the competition. For example, it:
·
Shows that you’re prepared
·
Shows that you are excited about the prospect of working for
the company
·
Gives you information to prepare important questions against
(thus showing interviewers that you are truly interested in the position)
Practise
answering common interview questions
40% of recruiters admit that
confidence is a key factor in increasing a candidate's chances of getting
hired.
One
way to boost confidence for a market access interview is to familiarise
yourself with common interview questions.
Apart from asking a list of behavioural questions, your interviewers are also going to be interested in the type of experience you have in the field, what types of projects you’ve worked on, and if you made any contributions towards the advancements of other companies you may have worked for.
