Finding a job in pharmaceuticals and biotech can be tough. Whether it’s in Medical Sales, as an MSL Manager or a Key Account Manager, competition for the best jobs is rife, and with all the work that goes into finding your dream role, it’s easy to be tempted to accept the first job offer that comes your way.

However, before you do so, it’s important to consider your options. Work isn’t just somewhere you go to earn money: it’s also where you spend around forty-seven years of your life, rack up approximately 9,024 hours in unpaid overtime, gain skills and make friendships and connections that could last for the rest of your life. Money aside, company culture is one of the most important elements to any job- especially because more than 90% of employees consider company culture to be an important aspect of life at their firms, with a bad company culture contributing to feels of dissatisfaction, low motivation, and a large staff turnover.

It goes without saying that happy employees are also productive employees, and research has backed this finding multiple times by various studies. Happy workers are 12% more productive than the average worker, whilst companies with a good culture outperform their counterparts by 20%. People like to work somewhere that they feel like they belong, and so when your company’s values align with your own, it’s conducive to a happy working atmosphere and increased productivity. In turn, this positivity and productivity reflects well on your company’s reputation and employer brand, thus attracting more employees: it’s a positive circle.

With 70% of employees saying that job-related training and development influences the decision to stay at their job - and with this figure rising to 87% for today’s ambitious millennial generation - evaluating whether your new workplace has good training and development opportunities should be a key factor in whether or not you accept a job. By conducting regular feedback sessions and investing time in upskilling you, businesses are effectively investing in your future, and in creating a better workforce. If you want to progress and be challenged in your role, it’s worth taking the time to look into this: ask your recruiter, or ask your interviewers for advice and insights as to whether the company is a good place to learn and to work your way up the career ladder.
